How we shape your perfect tree?

Did you know that our trees are pruned using swords? Pruning with swords is quite a skill. Not just anyone can do it, and it takes a few years to get the knack.

Work at the Dandenong Christmas Tree Farm goes on all year round. It's during Spring and Autumn that we are busy pruning. This intensive labour of love creates a beautiful tree shape, just right for hanging decorations.

Right now we are getting the farm ready for Christmas. There's a lot to do!

With less than 10 weeks to go before Santa's visit, the last of the spring pruning is happening and we're stocking up on decorations and tree stands.

We are also making sure our special netting machine is in top working order so your tree is easily transported home. Netted trees are kinder to the roof of your car and help prevent mess inside the car. When you arrive home, a netted tree is much easier to get through the front door and install on one of our stands. Once that's done, you can cut off the net to reveal your beautifully shaped tree exactly where you want it.

The farm at Officer is a lovely place to come for a picnic lunch or dinner, so plan a trip to come and choose a real tree for your special Christmas this year. You can even choose your tree early in the season and pick it up closer to Christmas night (we will mark your tree so no one else takes it home).

It's good to know that once the festivities are over, your Christmas tree can be recycled with us. Bring dead trees to the farm and leave them at the gate any time – they make fantastic mulch for nurturing our future Christmas trees.
