It's great fun to visit the Dandenong Christmas Tree Farm to wander through the forest of beautifully shaped pines.

Of course, you want to choose just the right tree for your home. Naturally, you might have some questions on how to go about it. We're here to help.

Here are the five most common questions we are asked…

1. Can I choose my own tree?

Yes! That's all part of the fun of visiting our farm. Wander around, find the one you like and we'll harvest it for you. You can even choose your tree, mark it and come back for it at a later date. We'll make sure the exact tree you select is kept for you.

2. What size tree do I need?

When choosing your tree, it's handy to know your ceiling height (or at least how high the star on the top of the tree can be). But don't worry if you're not sure; we can help you figure out the right size to fit your home. You'll find plenty of helpful folk around the farm with long sticks marked with different heights – they are experts in figuring out the right height tree for you. And if your ceilings are as high as those in the Werribee Mansion, we can help you with a tree just like this one we actually supplied for the Mansion!

3. Why is my tree netted?

Trees that have been netted are much easier to transport, either inside or on top of your car. It prevents needles dropping in the car or branches scratching your car paint. The netting also protects the branches and holds the tree in a nice snug shape which makes getting it through your front door and onto a stand much simpler. You won't require netting if you bring a trailer to transport your tree.

4. How will I get my tree home?

You might be surprised to learn just how easy it is to take your tree home, either in your car or on top of it. If you have roof racks we will load your tree onto your car – make sure you bring some rope! You can load trees in your car as well. We have plenty of experience fitting trees into cars so we know all the tricks. Some people even bring two cars: one to put the tree in and the other full of happy farm visitors!

5. Can I cut down my own tree?

No. Whilst you may be handy with a chainsaw at home, we cannot allow customers to cut their own trees (thanks to health and safety laws). Enjoy watching one of our friendly team do it for you!

Remember, we are here to help you with everything to do with your fresh tree – from choosing it to getting it home in perfect condition.
